History of Alvin Noon Lions Club

The Alvin Noon Lions Club, chartered in 1936, is the oldest existing civic organization in Alvin. The club is part of Lions Club International, the world's largest service organization with 1.4 million members in 42,689 clubs in 180 countries and geographic areas. Lions International contributes almost one billion dollars worldwide to help those in need.

The local organization contributes to Lions projects on the community, state, and, international level. It works with the Alvin Evening Lions Club to provide eye examinations and glasses for needy students in the Alvin Independent School District. Proceeds from its fund-raising activities also supply scholarships to deserving students, help to sponsor youth sports teams, allow Christmas presents for children in foster homes, and provide funds to such local charities as Meals on Wheels and the Food Pantry. The club helps to support the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, a free camp for children who are blind, deaf, diabetic, or have other physical disabilities. It also gives funds to the Lions Eye Bank of Texas in the Houston-Galveston area, the world's largest eye bank.
