The Alvin Evening Lions Club was chartered in April, 1964, as the sister club of the Alvin Noon Lions Club. The club is part of Lions Club International which is the world's largest service organization. Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions International contributes almost one billion dollars worldwide to help those in need.
On the local level, the Alvin Evening Lions Club works along side it sister in service, the Alvin Noon Lions Club, to provide eye examinations and glasses for needy students in the Alvin Independent School District. The Lions also work to support local charities such as the Alvin Community Food Pantry. This very busy food pantry serves over 200 area families a month with much need assistance. The club also assists the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department by helping supply batteries for donated toys collected during their Christmas toy drive.
In addition, the club supports Lions projects on the state and international level. One of many examples is the Texas Lions Camp. This camp, in Kerrville, was established by Lions to provide a summer camp for physically challenged and diabetic children. Alvin's Lions also support the Lions Eye Bank of Texas, which provides hope to those who are not blessed with the gift of vision.
The Alvin Evening Lions Club is growing. In 1996, the club reached out to the youth and established the Alvin Leo Club. The Leo program is designed to introduce Lionism to students 13-18. In Alvin, we established a club on the Alvin High School campus. Here, the students who join are able to gain valuable experience in serving others and working to better the world around them.
Also, in 2006, the Alvin Evening Lions Club established a club branch called RL Productions. This club branch was very active in the community before teaming up with Lions International and has continued their service as Lions. Some of their projects include participation in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and the Winds of a New Beginning Food Drive. This food drive was established by present Lions Club members when there were still in high school and it has continued to help the Alvin Community Food Pantry for 15 years!
Lions Clubs are deeply rooted the history of Alvin, Texas and we hope you will choose to be a part of our future.
